The founders, Kathy Carter-Makut and Mathew Makut, live continents apart—Kathy in the U.S. and Mathew in Nigeria—but were brought together by faith, destiny, and a shared vision. From the moment they met, love became the foundation of everything that followed.

During Kathy’s visits to Nigeria, she and Mathew spent countless hours sitting together, talking, dreaming, and planning. In those conversations, the seed for Makutz Crown Care was planted. They envisioned creating something that could outlive them: a legacy built on love, resilience, and care for others.

The inspiration, however, began at home—with Kathy’s daughter, Robynn Wilson-Makut. Robynn was born with naturally beautiful hair, full of texture and life. Like many mothers, Kathy wanted only the best for her child. But, through trial and error, Robynn’s hair texture was changed at a young age. As she grew older, Robynn began to fall out of love with her hair, feeling disconnected from what once made her unique and confident. That moment of realization stirred something deeper: Kathy and Mathew knew they had to create a solution—not just for Robynn, but for every child, woman, and man who has ever struggled to embrace their crown.

From that commitment, Makutz Crown Care was born. The line was created to restore what was lost, protect what is natural, and celebrate the beauty of every crown—whether it belongs to a woman, a man, a little boy, or a little girl. Every formula was carefully designed to hydrate, strengthen, and promote growth, while teaching families to fall back in love with their hair.

Together, Kathy and Mathew poured their hearts into this vision.
